(MALMÖ, SWEDEN; June 17, 2021) – Cloudist, the Swedish distributor of pay-as-you-go cloud services for IT providers announces today that it has been certified in accordance with the new VMware Zero Carbon Committed™ (ZCC) initiative launched by VMware in May.

Backed by initial partners Atea, Equinix, IBM, Microsoft, and OVHcloud, the ZCC  initiative recognizes VMware Cloud Verified providers committed to using 100%  renewable energy to power their data centers by the year 2030. Its aim is to help  customers reach their sustainability and decarbonization goals by connecting them with cloud providers that share these ambitions, thus catalyzing and accelerating the transition to zero carbon clouds.

Jasenko Masic, Business Unit Manager says that as one such provider, Cloudist is already ahead of the curve: “It’s rewarding to be acknowledged and certified so soon  after the initiative was launched last month. The companies behind the ZCC are major players, and they want to lead the change towards making the industry climate neutral by 2030. What’s really unique about our situation is that we already are. In fact, we’re not just climate neutral, we’re climate positive.”

Masic adds that achieving climate positive status has been a part of the company’s long term strategy and applies not solely to VMware, but to all Cloudist services delivered from multiple regions. “We’re seeing a heavier customer focus and demand for sustainable cloud services, which we’re very pleased about as this is completely in line with what we deliver.”

The ZCC certification by VMware comes half a year after EcoDataCenter Group, Cloudist’s co-location partner, was named as one of three finalists alongside Facebook and Microsoft for the 2020 DCD Energy Smart Award. That award recognizes the world’s most energy-aware and innovative data centers.
